| Ofsted is a non-ministerial government department established under the Education (Schools) Act 1992 to take responsibility for the inspection of all schools in England. It's role also includes the inspection of local education authorities, teacher training institutions and youth work. During 2001, Ofsted became responsible for inspecting all 16-19 education and for the regulation of early years childcare, including childminders. link |
Pre-school learning alliance |

The Pre-school Learning Alliance represents and supports 15,000 community pre-schools in England.
Registered as an educational charity, the Alliance is the national dimension of the pre-school movement,
which began in 1961 when, in the absence of state provision, parents started their own self-help nursery schools. Today, a workforce of more than 100,000 staff provide play and learning opportunities together with childcare for more than half a million children. Most of those staff can trace their involvement to bringing their own children to pre-school. link |
